Alphabet Games for Adult ESL Learners Super Simple and Fun!

Looking for a fun way to engage adult ESL learners in learners their alphabet, letter sounds and letter formation? I plan to cover all those individual skills on this blog. For now, I’m covering alphabet identification games.

There are plenty of alphabet activities for younger kids all over the internet, but what about older students? It can be so difficult finding activities or games to suit mature ESL learners. That’s why I’ve done the hard work for you. The games I will feature in this list are ones that you can use with nature learners or simply adapt the games to use them with older learners.

Alphabet Games for Adult ESL Learners

Here’s the first one I will feature from Sarah J Creations  This alphabet game is so simple and fun! Use a fly swatter to play this game, along with a large printed alphabet mat. Students will read the card and then whack the alphabet letter in question.
You can definitely not use the swatter if you find your adult learners prefer not to. Have them circle the letter on the mat or point to it! Head to her site here to get the printable and read more about how to play it!

Here’s one right from Super ESL Resources - get the free printable right from the post too. Great way to get students matching alphabet letters and letter sounds. Of course, change and adapt this according to what you think your students need!

The third one I’d like to feature is from A Gift of Curiosity. This game can be adapted for use with Adults for sure. Head to the post to find out how to play this along with the rules of the game. For adults I would simply change the ‘slap’ to identify the letter shown, if it’s correct they get to keep the card. The idea is that they need to collect as many cards as they can to win the game.

The last one is also from A gift of curiosity  This one is called ‘letter kaboom’. You can create this game using jumbo popsticks and a black felt pen. Excellent! Things you likely already have on hand. Head to the post to check out the rules of this gun super simple game!
